The Dane County Habitat for Humanity chapter is working to approve a new operating model aimed at more than tripling the number of homes the nonprofit can build or rehab each year by 2035, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. In recent years, it has averaged between 12–15 home-builds per fiscal year.
This fiscal year, ending June 30 for Habitat, has seen the group close on 15 homes, and in the second half of calendar 2024, it’s set to build seven more, including two duplex units in Oregon, one duplex in Madison, and one condo renovation in Madison. The nonprofit then plans to build eight or more homes by June 30, 2025.
While the chapter’s basic mission will remain unchanged, the types of volunteering may shift with a number of changes coming over the next 13 months or more, including:
-
Using a general contractor on some jobs;

Centralizing home rehab and work on multifamily homes;
-
Adopting construction management software;
-
Adhering to stricter construction schedules;
-
Buying building materials in bulk; and
