The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ranked Dane County No. 13 on its Green Power Partnership Top 30 On-site Generation list, according to The Stoughton Courier Hub.

The county used almost 36 kilowatt-hours — equivalent to the annual electricity use of over 3,000 average American homes — of green power last year, according to a July 29 Dane County news release, representing 65% of its total operational power needs. The county is also ranked No. 20 on the Top 30 Local Government list.

Dane County achieved 100% renewable offset electricity in July 2023 with the completion of the Yahara Solar project the county pursued in partnership with Alliant Energy and SunVest Solar. Before that, roughly 40% of the county’s electricity was renewable offset through the Airport Solar partnership with MGE and around 17 rooftop solar installations on county facilities.
