The Dane County Food Action Plan was launched on Feb. 27, according to Madison365. The new group represents a collaboration between REAP Food Group, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension Dane County, the Dane County Food Council, the Madison Food Policy Council, the Dane County Food Collective, Wisconsin Food Systems, and Public Health Madison & Dane County.
The project aims to bolster the Dane County food system’s equitability, health, and resiliency through strategic policy recommendations and community partnerships. The action plan’s goal is to transform the current profit-focused, commodity farming-based model into a more sustainable one.
The Dane County Food Action Plan is providing community resources to facilitate resident engagement and gather feedback now through August. The county and the United States Department of Agriculture are providing grant funding for the efforts.
