A cleanup plan for toxic “forever chemicals” at the Dane County Regional Airport will move ahead, according to The Capital Times, using innovative technologyto remediate the pollution. A $1.5 million contract to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at the airport was recently approved by the Dane County Board.
The airport is among many nationwide contending with PFAS contamination, as the substances were formerly common in firefighting foam used in emergency responses.
The new contract with Verona’s ORIN Technologies will expand a cleanup method already given a trial run at the airport. Data illustrates that the strategy is effective in removing PFAS and halting their flow into local waterways, airport officials say.
