According to The Capital Times, Dane County Regional Airport has seen some of the highest spikes in ticket prices in the U.S.

A new study from online loan marketplace LendingTree used federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics data to calculate the average airfare for domestic flights at the nation’s busiest 100 airports. The study compared the average for the first quarter of 2023 with prices for the same period in 2021 and 2022.

Dane County was the priciest of the 100 airports in the study, with an average domestic airfare of $537.70 in 2023. It topped the chart in 2022 as well. The only other airport with an average airfare over $500 was Ted Stevens Anchorage International in Alaska, which is located over 2,000 miles from the next closest state.

Dane County airport’s ticket prices increased 16.6% over the last year, from $461.11 in the first quarter of 2022. Nationally, the average domestic airfare rose by 9.8% to $381.55.

Dane County Regional Airport spokesperson Michael Riechers says the airport does not directly influence ticket prices and is only able to control the fees it charges airlines.
