An investigation of the February cyberattack on Wisconsin State Journal parent company Lee Enterprises reportedly found that hackers stole data from about 40,000 people. The data breach included first and last names and Social Security numbers, according to the Iowa-based media company.
A report from Lee to the Maine Attorney General’s Office said that 39,779 individuals were affected by the incident and will be notified by letter. They included employees and customers.
The media company is offering those affected 12 months of credit monitoring services through IDX, a third-party vendor. Lee said last month that it spent $2 million after the cyberattack to restore its operations. The company reported a $12 million loss last month and said the cyberattack “had a significant impact on our quarterly operating results.”
