The budget plan put together by the U.S. Air Force calls for Wisconsin’s Air National Guard to be reduced by 39 positions beginning in October. If Congress approves the plan, the Volk Field Combat Readiness Training Center in Camp Douglas will lose nine full-time positions and 14 drill status Guard positions. The 128th Refueling Wing in Milwaukee would see the loss of 16 drill status Guard positions as well, bringing the total of state Air Guard members to around 2,260. Nationally, about 400 positions in the Air National Guard will be cut if the U.S. Air Force goes ahead with a plan to reduce its personnel by about 20,000.
