U.S. attorneys have selected Stephen VanderBloemen, a certified public accountant from Waukesha, to oversee Miron Construction Co., Inc. for three years as part of a settlement in an investigation that found the construction company overbilled school districts between 2003 and 2008.
The “non-prosecution agreement” was announced in April and includes $4 million Miron recently paid to compensate the five school districts affected: De Pere, DC Everest, Marathon, Waunakee, and Abbotsford. According to reports, Miron intentionally inflated wages paid to employees on construction projects. It also allegedly transferred costs between projects to make unprofitable ones appear profitable.
The agreement allows Miron executives to neither confirm nor deny the allegations.
