Dane County’s Personnel and Finance Committee met Monday night to review and make a recommendation for the County Board on the 2025 Dane County Budget. At the meeting, the committee approved amendments to the budget as proposed by County Executive Jamie Kuhn.
The County Board will now hold one last budget hearing for public comments on the budget as recommended by the Personnel and Finance Committee. The hearing will take place on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. Members of the public who would like to speak at the hearing can register with the information at the top of the agenda that will be available here by mid-week.
Key amendments to the budget proposal recommended by Personnel and Finance include:

Two positions in the DA’s Office to improve the Deferred Prosecution program;

A position in the Planning and Development Department to move the Regional Housing Strategy initiative forward, supported by $75,000 for marketing, outreach, and public engagement;

A program leader position for the Department of Human Services’ Joining Forces for Families (JFF) to serve as an additional housing navigator, as well as the provision of $30,285 for JFF to contribute toward reducing housing barriers for Dane County residents;

An additional $10 million in capital for affordable housing development funding;

A Spanish medical interpreter position for the Department of Human Services; and

An additional $55,000 for the rapid rehousing contract with Salvation Army for case management due to decreased United Way funding.

Following the hearing on Oct. 28, the County Board will hold budget deliberations on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m.
