Following the withdrawal of Dane County Executive Melissa Agard’s nominee for the director of Dane County Human Services, Agard will briefly reopen recruitment for the position, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The national job search will recommence for 10 days.
Human Services is the county’s largest department, with a $308 million budget and oversight of an extensive social services network. Last week, Colorado hospital executive Amy Everett, who Agard nominated for the director role, reportedly dropped out of the running after a county supervisor asked questions about scandals at her employer.
For a third time, Astra Iheukumere, who has been interim director since mid-2022, will potentially be passed over with the reopening of the search. Iheukumere was a finalist for the permanent director position in 2023 and again during the most recent process.
