A new Dane County pilot program aims to preserve productive farmland and safeguard critical water resources through voluntary conservation easements.

Local units of government and qualified nonprofits can apply now through Nov. 21 for $300,000 in funding offered through the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program pilot.

Purchasing agricultural conservation easements restricts future development on farmland to ensure conservation in the long term. The easements will also aid the improvement and maintenance of water quality by making sure protected lands meet standards for nutrient management and erosion control.

Information about eligibility requirements and the ACEP Pilot application can be found on the ACEP pilot page of the Dane County website.
