County jobless rate rises

Dane County’s unemployment rate increased in June but remains the lowest in the state, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ estimates released by the Department of Workforce Development. The county’s rate increased to 4.2%, up from 3.8% in May.

Statewide, unemployment rates decreased in all but one of Wisconsin’s 72 counties compared to June of 2013. But from May to June of 2014, unemployment rose in 61 counties. St. Croix County tied with Dane for the lowest unemployment rate in June, while Menominee County continues to have the state’s highest unemployment, at 17.8%.
