The Dane County Board has approved a resolution that will provide funding for a voluntary gun buyback program for the Dane County Sheriff’s Office. The program provides a safe legal means for citizens to dispose of unwanted firearms and will be funded with $50,000 that will cover $12,000 of staff overtime costs for the Dane County sheriff’s office and the Madison police department, the purchase of fuel and grocery gift cards, and the facility use fees and supplies. A voluntary gun buyback event is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 13.
