Cost estimates for an expanded Alliant Energy Center campus are higher than what was originally projected, leading County Executive Joe Parisi to ask Mark Clarke, executive director of the Alliant Energy Center, for alternatives.

According to a Wisconsin State Journalstory, the 2018 master plan estimated that expanding Exhibition Hall would cost $91 million. That has risen to about $130 million, according to Strang Inc., the engineering firm overseeing development. In addition, the first phase of the project according to the 2018 plan was projected to cost $109 million, but the latest estimate is $177 million.

Dane County Board Chair Sharon Corrigan agrees the plans need revisiting. Several reasons listed for the increases include tariffs on the costs of materials and a competitive construction and labor market.
