A 10-story housing development proposed by Apex Real Estate and Walter Wayne Development is raising concerns about historic preservation, housing affordability, and traffic, but the developers think the benefits outweigh these concerns, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.
The housing and parking garage project near Monona Terrace would raze buildings at 145, 147, 149, and 151 W. Wilson St. and buildings at 309, 313, 315, and 321 S. Henry St. to make way for 200 apartment units and 240 enclosed parking stalls. Developers say the project would provide needed housing, handicap accessibility, energy efficiency, and increased property tax revenue. The developers say the neighborhood and city would help define the architecture.
