A project by Stone House Development and New Madison Development that would build apartments on the remaining four acres of west side Madison’s Pierstorff farm was approved by the city Plan Commission on Monday, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.

The plans would raze the two houses, duplex, and barn currently standing at 6610–6706 Old Sauk Road, constructing a three-story, 138-unit apartment building in their place. Residents who spoke out against the project cited its large size in comparison to the neighborhood, potential to increase traffic and congestion, and reduction of stormwater drainage, increasing area flood risk, among reasons for their opposition.

The commission, however, found that the proposal met the criteria for approval. The final major sign-off will be in the City Council’s hands.
