Consumer confidence dipped in September, with fewer people optimistic about hiring and pay increases over the next six months. The Conference Board’s consumer confidence index fell from 81.8 in August to 79.7 in September. The measure of consumer confidence has improved since the Great Recession began but has yet to reach the 90 mark, which is typically indicative of a healthy economy.
