Madison Gas & Electric has begun construction work on an electric vehicle (EV) fast-charger hub in the Capital East district of downtown Madison. The utility company says the hub, which is expected to begin serving EV drivers later this year, will include eight fast-charger stalls and eight Tesla “superchargers.”

With power levels up to 350 kilowatts, and powered by renewable energy, the hub will be located at East Washington Avenue and South Livingston Street. It is one of the first charging hubs of its kind and part of MGE’s program to achieve net-zero carbon electricity by 2050, including cleaner, more sustainable transportation options.

EV drivers who sign up with MGE are eligible to receive 50% off the cost of charging at MGE’s charging facilities, which include more than 40 wind-powered public charging stations and the chargers at the forthcoming charging hub.
