Confusion about essential versus nonessential amongst Wisconsin businesses prompted 3,200 calls to Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. on Tuesday, March 24, according to a report in the Milwaukee Business Journal. On March 25, the office had received about 7,400 calls and online inquiries from businesses questioning if they can stay open during the Gov. Tony Evers’ Safer-at-Home order.

In the order, the governor used language that specifically includes grocery stores, gas stations, and hardware stores, among other businesses as essential. Other language in the order is less specific, prompting inquiries.
