The Madison Common Council passed the 2024 city budget with an 18–2 vote after hours of deliberation, according to Channel3000. The budget will raise property taxes by just under 4% while mandating that all departments cut their budgets by 1%.
The budget will include more resources for the CARES program, funding for the Lake Monona waterfront and John Nolen projects, funding for the city’s bus rapid transit system — including money for a new north-south line — and investments in affordable housing and clean energy.
