A sushi restaurant planned for the 500 block of State Street was denied a liquor license by the Madison Alcohol License Review Committee on a 3–2 vote.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, members voting against the license cited concerns about safety at that end of State Street and whether the restaurant would simply “morph” into a bar.

Reportedly, the restaurant owner will still open the restaurant without the license because she’s already poured about $100,000 into the establishment.
