A federal judge on Friday signed off on a $2.8 billion antitrust settlement that will clear the way for colleges and universities to begin paying their athletes, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. U.S. Judge Claudia Wilken approved the final proposal related to revenue sharing, which had been hung up on roster limits.
Among the terms of the so-called “House” settlement are approval for each school to share up to $20.5 million with athletes over the next year, and $2.7 billion to be paid over the next 10 years to thousands of former players who for years were barred from that revenue.
The NCAA has 1,100 member schools and nearly 500,000 athletes set to feel the effects of the change.
