Cold winter good for MGE earnings

The frigid winter helped MGE Energy increase profits for the quarter ending Dec. 31. MGE reported net income of $14.1 million (41 cents/share) on revenues of $155.3 million, compared to net income of $10.5 million (30 cents/share) on revenues of $137 million a year earlier. For all of 2013, MGE had earnings of $74.9 million ($2.16/share) on revenues of $590 million. That compares to 2012, when the Madison utility reported earnings of $64.4 million ($1.86/share) on revenues of $541.3 million.
