If Wisconsin farms are to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, it’s going to take some work.
Environmental group Clean Wisconsin released a report this month with other partners like the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Grassland 2.0 initiative, which shows greenhouse gas emissions rose 20% in the previous 20 years, Wisconsin Public Radio reported.
However, simple changes proposed in the report say the reductions that would result would only be at about 6 to 9%, which isn’t enough to reach net-zero status.
Some more advanced suggestions include growing perennials like hazelnuts and Kernza, a perennial grain.
