A federal grant of $290,000 is on its way to Madison to help plan the development near Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations. The BRT system would use 60-passenger buses and run roughly from East Towne to West Towne Malls, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.
The federal funds will be used to plan for transit-oriented development along the $160 million, 15.5-mile route. BRT is a limited-stop, high-capacity service that could be operational in Madison as soon as 2024. The funding for Madison is part of $6.2 million in funding for nine projects in seven states to improve access to public transportation.
