An addition to the 2022 budget is allowing the city of Madison to hire a consultant to evaluate a 311 system to allow residents to efficiently lodge complaints, track public works projects, and navigate the city’s agencies responsible for municipal tasks, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The consultant will create a “road map” on the operations of the potential system. Currently, complaints, questions, and concerns about issues such as garbage pickup, potholes, and fireworks are handled by a piecemeal system of emails and phone calls to council members and city staff. A 311 system would handle all requests in one place. The consultant is expected to be hired in January or February of 2022.
