City tech jobs mark huge gain through beginning of pandemic

A Brookings Institution report found that Madison gained technology sector jobs through the COVID-19 pandemic, a growth rate that was higher than in the prior five years, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport. Tech jobs grew by 3.6% between 2015 and 2019 and 2.6% in 2020 alone. There were 15,000 tech workers in 2015 and in 2020 that number had grown to just under 19,000. The decentralization of tech jobs that have been traditionally based in cities such as San Francisco, Seattle, and New York has contributed to the growth in Madison.
