The city of Madison on Monday unveiled the first phase of the Madison LakeWay, WKOW reports. The project will redevelop a 0.6-mile stretch of Lake Monona shoreline along John Nolen Drive and involves the cooperation of Madison Parks and multiple other city agencies.
Key elements of the project’s first phase include:

A 10-foot wide bike lane;

A pedestrian path at least six feet wide;

A two-foot wide paved jogging path;

Nearly 3 acres of linear park; and
-
An expanded urban tree canopy.
The project will also implement a new stormwater treatment approach, a boardwalk with fishing areas and signage providing educational information on the environment.
The public can provide input through a Madison Parks survey open until Aug. 4. By the end of August, design development will conclude and construction drawings are set to begin.
In August of 2026, public works bidding would start, followed by construction in 2027.
