A “Streatery” program developed during the COVID-19 pandemic to help Madison’s restaurants and bars expand outdoor seating beyond what had been allowed by ordinance may be approved as a permanent program, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. Two ordinances and two amendments are being presented for City Council approval this week. If passed, the program would allow for the expansion of sidewalk cafes into the road, and many aspects of the temporarily-approved Streatery program would be kept in place. The program was authorized by the council on an emergency basis starting in 2020 and extended until April 14.
