The city of Madison has highlighted several housing goals to hit by 2030, WMTV15 reports, including constructing 15,000 additional homes over the next five years to keep pace with population growth. Around 25% of those homes would be affordable units.
Factors like the location of the units, the area’s green space and proximity to a school and the BRT line can influence the integrity of a housing complex, according to Jaymes Langrehr, the public information officer for the Department of Planning, Community and Economic Development.
The city can incentivize area recommendations through its Request for Proposals Process, wherein developers submit plans for the facilities and services they would provide, and the city has the opportunity to support projects with subsidies through its Affordable Housing Fund.
Last year, the city supported four affordable housing projects with its budget. In the coming months, Madison will announce the next round of affordable housing requests for proposals and tax credit projects.
