The city of Madison closed all ice rinks and ski trails until further notice, according to WMTV15. The news follows unusually mild weather this month.

Sledding hills, ski trails, and ice skating rinks in the area are generally unusable due to recent melting. The city will have to consider several factors before declaring ice rinks and frozen water safe, including:

  • Ice depth at designated rinks and lagoons;

  • The equipment used to groom and maintain the ice; and

  • Snowfall on top of the ice with an insulating effect.

The status of rinks can be monitored online or checked by contacting the Madison Parks office at (608) 266-4711.
