The City of Madison was awarded $17.4 million in federal grant funding from the Federal Transit Administration to replace aging transit buses with modern, fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles.

This investment allows Metro Transit to retire some of the oldest vehicles in its fleet.

“By replacing the oldest buses in Metro Transit’s fleet with new hybrid technology, we are ensuring that our transit system remains dependable and efficient for the thousands of residents who rely on it every day,” Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said in a statement.

“Madison’s transportation network is an important component of the regional economy. This investment by the federal government will benefit the entire state as well as the Madison metro area.”
