The city of Madison is moving to buy a strip mall and vacant lot in the 1900 block of South Park Street, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. Ald. Sheri Carter of the 14th District has proposed the property’s $1.44 million purchase for possible redevelopment. The 11,882-square-foot strip mall on a 0.7-acre lot and an adjacent 4,958-square-foot lot would remain occupied by existing businesses in the short term under the current leases and may welcome new businesses on the site if there are vacancies. In the long term, the city could redevelop the property for a new mixed-use, retail, and residential project.
