The city of Madison and Downtown Madison, Inc. are working together to Envision Downtown Madison.
Envision Downtown Madison — a partnership between the city and Downtown Madison Inc. — looks to provide a vision for the downtown area’s future. It includes the city’s Downtown Area Plan and the Greater Downtown Economic Investment Strategy (the city calls the two projects “separate but coordinated efforts”).
Led by the city, the Downtown Area plan will guide future growth, public policy and investments. It will look to build off of the 2012 Downtown Plan, the last time Madison created a downtown plan.
DMI will lead the Greater Downtown strategy, with a focus on long-term investment opportunities in downtown that ensure its growth is sustainable and inclusive.
“Both projects will be run at the same time and with coordination between the two entities as a public-private effort,” city of Madison spokesman Jaymes Langrehr said in a statement.
The effort will launch with a joint public information and feedback event on Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. It will be in-person and virtual. The in-person event is at the Madison Concourse Hotel, 1 West Dayton St., and will be available online via Zoom.
The city has asked attendees to register for the in-person event and virtual meeting.
