In the latest twist in the saga involving the downtown Madison building that houses Paisan’s restaurant, the city of Madison has ordered the building closed if a required inspection isn’t completed by June 6. According to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal, the city sent a letter to building owner Greg Rice informing Rice that he still did not, as he was required to do, have an outside contractor inspect roughly 3,200 steel shores installed to stabilize the building’s crumbling underground parking garage.
The 12-story building, at 131 W. Wilson St., was supposed to be inspected by May 19, but the inspection has yet to be done. Rice was informed that the failure to complete the monitoring requirements will result in the city reposting the building as “No Occupancy” and force the city to vacate it.
