The city of Madison is considering changes to its zoning code in order to address an increasingly troublesome shortage of affordable housing, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. The changes would hope to encourage a variety of new construction of housing for many income levels.
The Plan Commission will meet to discuss measures to clear the way for more affordable housing, including ways to create more multifamily housing, new rules for secondary units on the same lot, more density in zoning districts, use of the city’s Affordable Housing Fund, and the process for approving demolitions for new housing projects.
