With the aid of a $50,000 Building Improvement Grant from the city of Madison, Knifeworks owner Isaiah Schroeder plans to expand his shop into a storefront called Sever Forever, The Capital Times reports.
The grant program, funded by the city’s tax increment financing, supports renovations to independent retail and service businesses in or near designated tax increment districts — including the area where Schroeder operates.
Schroeder’s workspace at 1516 Gilson St. for years has offered pre-made and custom knife orders and a monthly, two-day knifemaking workshop. Soon, the business will soon offer knife sharpening and repair services as well.
The storefront is set to open in September.
