Madison Parks officials and fans of Monona Golf Course recently squared off at a meeting about the financial challenges facing the city’s four golf courses.
According to a report from Channel 3000, there are three options being considered: The city could direct tax dollars toward what is supposed to be a self-sustaining golf enterprise fund; it could sell the 36-hole Yahara Hills Golf Course, which is not profitable and would cut the number of golf holes in the city by half, or it could sell off a portion of the nine-hole Monona Golf Course for development and transform the rest of the course into a park.
Of the city’s other two courses, Odana Hills remains profitable, while Glenway, next to a cemetery on the west side, would be difficult to sell, according to Madison Parks.
A decision is expected in April.
