The far east side Red Rooster bar’s liquor license was stripped by the Madison City Council on Tuesday six months after the business’ manager allegedly caused a fatal crash after drinking on the job, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The council’s unanimous vote upheld the Alcohol License Review Committee’s nonrenewal recommendation last week.
Timothy Payne, who owns the establishment at 2513 Seiferth Road, pleaded guilty to part of the city attorney’s office’s 10-page complaint ahead of the committee’s recommendation last Thursday. The council this week found each count in the complaint against Red Rooster to be truthful and decided not to renew its liquor license and, therefore, its entertainment license.
The bar has faced scrutiny since the December crash — allegedly caused by its manager, who was seen drinking at work — killed a 37-year-old man.
