A proposed 10-story apartment building from Lafayette, Indiana’s Trinitas Ventures is approaching final approval after receiving the City Council’s OK last Tuesday, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The redevelopment project would be located at 619 and 699 W. Mifflin St. between two historic structures — the one-story Milwaukee Road Depot and the two-story Wiedenbeck-Dobelin Warehouse.
The developer would raze two low-rise apartment buildings constructed in the 1980s that offer a total of roughly 120 beds to make way for a new structure with 665 beds and a mix of studios, one- to five-bed units, and double-occupancy rooms. It would feature amenities like a fitness center, a rooftop pool and sauna, interior and exterior courtyards, and a terrace facing the Capitol and the Kohl Center.
One of the existing apartment buildings proposed for demolition shares a single lot and street address with the Wiedenbeck-Dobelin Warehouse, which was formerly also converted into apartments. Trinitas would preserve those apartments and make a few interior improvements to the warehouse; however, it is seeking an amendment to remove the newer building from the landmark nomination that applies to the entire property.
