The Madison City Council has signed off on a $3.7 million land deal that will expand Elver Park as a complement to south side Madison’s 600-unit Veridian Homes development, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
The 55-acre land acquisition tees up the city for its largest commercial park expansion in decades. Forty acres of the acquisition are for the park. The city’s Parks Division will draft an Elver Park Master Plan in the next 12–18 months to chart future growth.
Elver Park is the largest in the city and features skiing, trails, disc golf, athletic fields, and more. Potential additions could include a dog park, more athletic fields, and other community amenities.
Under the council-backed deal, Veridian Homes will dedicate 12 acres of land to the city to meet park and open space requirements for its housing development.
