City committee shelves pay raise

Federal guidelines might nix a proposal to used pandemic aid for a one-time stimulus payment for city of Madison general employees, according to an article in The Capital Times. The proposal, made by a group of Madison alders, would use $4.5 million of the $47.2 million the city is getting through the federal American Rescue Plan Act for one-time, $2,661 payments to all general municipal employees in 2021. However, the Madison Finance Committee has taken proposal off the table due to concerns about whether it’s consistent with U.S. Department of Treasury rules governing the use of federal coronavirus relief.
