The Madison Board of Estimates has recommended JDS Development (Hammes Co. of Madison, Majestic Realty Co. of Los Angeles) for the massive Judge Doyle Square project in downtown Madison, and has urged Mayor Paul Soglin and city staff to begin negotiations with the developer. Earlier, a special city commission also recommended the JDS plan over an alternate proposal led by the Journeyman Group of Austin, Texas. The project includes the redevelopment of two blocks of prime downtown real estate anchored by the Madison Municipal Building. A new hotel would be added, as well as housing, commercial space, a bike center, and parking. The City Council is set to consider the board’s recommendations on Feb. 25.
