For the second year in a row, the city of Madison has canceled Freakfest, the large downtown Halloween celebration typically held on the Saturday nearest to Halloween, according to a statement from the city. The city cited the current public health situation and the rise in the cases of the Delta variant as the reason for the cancellation. Public Health Madison & Dane County strongly recommends getting vaccinated, wearing a mask indoors, avoiding crowded spaces, maintaining physical distance, washing hands often, and avoiding direct contact with trick-or-treaters.
