Citing a lack of staff, Madison officials have canceled this year’s Ride the Drive bicycling event, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. A representative from the city’s parks division said there were still about 100 positions to fill this year in the department and the event takes significant staff resources to plan, promote, and execute. Instead, the city will focus its efforts on Warner Park Community Recreation Center, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, and neighborhood park-focused events. Ride the Drive, which began in 2009, closes some streets to vehicles for part of a day so people can safely bike, walk, jog, skateboard, or rollerblade the route.
