The Center for Tech and Civic Life, a nonpartisan organization, has awarded Madison a $1.3 million grant to help administer its elections during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport.

The primary election in April cost the city 20% more than originally budgeted and Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said the city expects to use the grant to fund voting centers, add drop boxes, improve the processing of absentee ballots, provide protective equipment for polling stations, and recruit poll workers.

Milwaukee, Green Bay, Kenosha, and Racine also received grants.
