Across South Sixth Street from Union Corners, the city of Madison approved $1 million toward a new $12.7 million project offering child care and housing. A four-story building from Movin’ Out and Red Caboose Childcare will replace two single-family homes and a vacant one-story building, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.

The building, at 2340 Winnebago St., will include a 21,000-square-foot Red Caboose child-care center and 38 apartments with a mix of market-rate and lower-income units. About a quarter of the housing units will be designated for households with a family member with a disability.

This project may not break ground until 2021, with completion slated for 2022.
