City council members voted to approve an apartment tower and Whole Foods grocery store for the Madison Yards development at the corner of University Avenue and North Segoe Road, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.
The large development by a joint venture between Gilbane Development Co. and Summit Smith Development has proposed a 15-story, 275-unit apartment building, a 54,300-square-foot Whole Foods, and a 550-stall parking structure attached to a mix of office space, apartments, retail, and a hotel — all surrounding a central plaza. The Madison City Council approved the large apartment tower and a new Whole Foods grocery store this week as part of the project.
The council also rejected a bid to rezone several properties on the east side to align them with a city plan. This vote avoids a change that could have prevented the Amazon distribution center on Milwaukee Street from expanding.
