Owners of the office building at 131 W. Wilson St. have failed to comply with conditions of occupancy, and the city of Madison is again closing the office and restaurant building, according to a statement from the city. The building that houses Paisan’s restaurant and many business tenants was closed in early September 2021 because of structural concerns, and city officials worked with the building owner to establish and install safety measures. After reopening in October 2021, the building was closed again in December 2021 after the owner failed to provide ongoing monitoring of the temporary shoring system.
The building was reopened in January 2022 after required inspections and reports were completed. Most recently, the city notified the building owner that the inspection and monitoring reports to certify the continued safety of the building were not being submitted. Since the required documentation has not been submitted, the building is again being vacated. The city stated that officials do not believe the building is at risk of imminent collapse. A request from the owner to demolish the building is tentatively scheduled for the June 27 Madison Plan Commission meeting.
