Citing costs, developer again changes Wonder Bar project

McGrath Property Group is now dropping plans for a 12-story housing and commercial project in the 200 block of East Olin Avenue, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. The new, downsized project would still demolish the Coliseum Bar, but keep the historic Wonder Bar in its current location. The developer says increasing construction costs have directed the decision to downsize the project, which will likely be four to five stories over two levels of parking. The project has seen several iterations beginning with a plan to build an 18-story project that would have razed both the Coliseum Bar at 232 E. Olin Ave. and the Wonder Bar at 222 E. Olin Ave. The plans were changed in November to downsize the project and relocate the Wonder Bar.
